Cercone Village on the Park

Location: Bloomfield, PA
Completion: 2003
Project Area: 34,500 ft2
Services: Architecture

IKM was commissioned by Trinity Associates development to design a state-of-the-art, three-story structure of 34,500 square feet as a new professional office building to house an increasing number of physicians’ practices from the surrounding hospitals.

Located at the corner of Friendship Avenue and Edmond Streets, this building is the first new development in 70 years in the Bloomfield suburb of Pittsburgh. The new structure anchors a prominent corner of Friendship Park.

The building’s massing consists of a three-story rectangular masonry volume, partially wrapped by a lower volume that follows the irregular outline of the property. The masonry rectangle with its punched openings and metal roof anchors the building while the materials and proportions of the windows refer to the scale and typology of the street and neighborhood.

At the corner of Edmond Street, a fifty-foot tall tower marks the main entrance to the building. The 3-story atrium with a 360-degree clerestory is a dramatic feature and a focal point from the surrounding streets. The tower faces Friendship Park and is on axis with Cedarville Street.
