This project involved the renovation of existing operating rooms to support minimally invasive surgical procedures and equipment. The space was designed to facilitate the use of the latest, high-tech robotic surgery methods.

The project called for replacing all OR lights with specialized lighting fixtures that included video cameras. Additional cameras were installed in the rooms to transmit on-going procedures to remote locations and an observation suite was added for educational purposes.

As part of the growth and expansion project, IKM Architects designed a new Heart and Vascular Center at the WPH Forbes Regional Campus. The Center features two large operating rooms designed for cardiac and other advanced surgical procedures.

The Western Pennsylvania Hospital is the only hospital in the tri-state area and one of just four hospitals in Pennsylvania to offer this unique technology that enables physicians to plan, verify and deliver radiation therapy more accurately than ever before.  To enhance the treatment center of the TomoTherapy Hi-Art System, the Western Pennsylvania Hospital utilized the architectural design skills of IKM Incorporated.
