Having become a trusted partner in designing facilities that meet community health needs and the UPMC Facilities Department’s goals, IKM architects were retained to design the new UPMC Hampton Outpatient facility. The UPMC Hampton three-story medical office building, approximately 44,000 square feet, is intended to consolidate several current physician practices in the area into one building to better serve the Hampton Township community.
The facility will feature comprehensive care for children and adults, various rehabilitation therapies, primary care, advanced imaging services, diagnostic testing, and after-hours care for adults and children. The new center is based on the medical mall concept of convenient access to primary care services for patients in their own communities.
The practice design approach incorporates the timeshare strategy that provides exam space to be allocated to each practice based on the needs of their daily schedule along with shared support space. The imaging center provides digital x-ray and ultra sound services. In addition, contracted laboratory services and rehabilitation services will occupy space in the building.
Once constructed, the Outpatient Center will be LEED Certified, featuring a three-story glass atrium designed with an abundance of natural light. To achieve LEED Certification with the U. S. Green Building Council (USGBC), the design team employed knowledge of strategies that addressed the site, building envelope, and building interior.
