PSHFE and Pittsburgh Penguins Win, a Good Conference Combo
On April 21 and 22, IKM principal architect, Jeff Brown, AIA, NCARB, SAGE, attended the PSHFE Spring Conference and Technical Exhibition. PSHFE, the Pennsylvania Society of Health Facilities Engineers, hosts their conference twice annually, always at the Red Lion Hotel in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. The event draws engineers, architects, and facility professionals in the health care market from all over the state.
IKM is a regular attendee of the PSHFE events, often displaying their healthcare booth, promoting recent healthcare work, and connecting with new and familiar faces in the healthcare industry.
This year’s educational topics included information on energy savings opportunities, life-safety code basics and an update from Charles Schlegel from the PA Department of Health, Division of Safety Inspection.
In year’s past, Brown has been an invited speaker to the conference presenting changes to the AIA Guidelines for Health Facility Design. This year he was happy to be a conference sponsor and vendor.
“It is an opportunity to support a professional organization of the people that I work with and for everyday,” said Brown. “They come here for continuing education opportunities and credits, by being a sponsor we help make that happen. It’s good to see familiar faces in the vendor hall, as well.”
In addition to the two “official” days of the conference, a reception was initiated at the Fall session on the Thursday evening before the conference began. It was such a hit, the reception carried over to the Spring 2016 event. The highlight of the Thursday get-together was a raucous crowd in the hotel lounge enjoying the Pittsburgh Penguin post-season game and series-ending win over the New York Rangers.
