It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Robert “Bob” Bailey, a respected and invaluable member of the IKM Architecture (IKM) team and the broader architecture community.
Bob dedicated over 40 years to the profession, leaving a lasting impact through his expertise in construction specifications. As a specifier and associate at IKM, Bob’s meticulous approach to detailing and documentation ensured the highest quality in every project he touched.
Beyond his contributions to IKM, Bob was deeply involved in the industry. He was a member of The American Institute of Architects (AIA) Pittsburgh Chapter, founder of the Pittsburgh Specifiers’ Roundtable, a past president of CSI Pittsburgh, and a recipient of the Roswell S. Johnson Memorial Award for excellence in specifications writing. He also shared his knowledge as a member of the Construction Specifier Magazine editorial board and as the editor of the CSI Pittsburgh monthly newsletter. His dedication to professional development extended to mentoring the next generation of architects, helping to shape the industry’s future.
Bob worked on an impressive range of projects, from healthcare facilities at Allegheny Health Network and University of Pittsburgh Medical Center to educational institutions including Carnegie Mellon University, Penn State University, and Duquesne University, as well as international projects. His passion for precision, innovation, and constructability played a vital role in the success of these projects.
While Bob’s technical expertise was unmatched, it was his kindness, humor, and unwavering support for his colleagues that made him truly special. He was not just a brilliant architect but a mentor, a collaborator, and a friend to many.
