For student organizations or groups interested in IKM, we offer firm tours that provide a direct look at our work, culture, and design approach.

Tours include a firm overview and opportunities to engage with our team. Experiences can be tailored to your group and may include design activities, informational sessions, or project reviews.

Visitors are encouraged to ask questions, interact with staff, and gain insight into how architectural ideas are developed and delivered.

To request a firm tour, please provide:

  • Student organization (if applicable)

Job Shadow Program

If you’re interested in a career in architecture or interior design, this is a great place to start.

IKM’s job shadow program offers exposure to our design professionals, giving you insight into career paths and the day-to-day realities of the industry. You’ll have the opportunity to build meaningful connections, review project work, observe drawing development, explore tools like AutoCAD and Revit, and tour one of our offices.

Participants will gain a better understanding of how architects and designers collaborate with clients, engineers, and construction teams, and are encouraged to be curious.

Emerging Professional

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Emerging Professional (Architectural Graduate) to join our dynamic team. This role is ideal for recent graduates (0-3 years experience) looking to gain hands-on experience in the architectural field while contributing to innovative projects. The Emerging Professional will work closely with senior architects and project managers, gaining exposure to various aspects of architectural design, project management, and construction processes.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the development of architectural designs and presentations using software such as AutoCAD, Revit, and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Participate in project scheduling and management, ensuring timelines are met and deliverables are on track.
  • Collaborate with team members on construction estimating and budgeting for projects.
  • Utilize Bluebeam for document management and coordination among project stakeholders.
  • Engage in business development activities by supporting proposal preparation and client presentations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Architecture or Master of Architecture is required. Degree must be from an accredited school of architecture.
  • Familiarity with construction management principles and practices is preferred.
  • Experience with project management tools or methodologies is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Revit is essential
  • Understanding of construction processes, contracts, and negotiation tactics will be beneficial.
  • Previous internships or co-op experiences in architecture or related fields will be considered an asset.
  • Strong communication skills are necessary for effective collaboration within a team environment.

Interior Designer II

IKM Architecture is seeking an Interior Designer with a minimum of six years of experience to join our team in our Cleveland or Columbus, OH office. This position generates architectural concepts for interior projects, including full responsibility for interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating interior design assignments. In addition, this person will provide subject matter expertise on specific components of interior design.

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the design development and documentation of interior environments, including preparation of floor plans and related drawings, with a high degree of independence.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Interior Designer on furniture layouts, specifications, and other project deliverables across all phases of design.
  • Prepare accurate drawings and documents in alignment with project schedules, budgets, and quality standards.
  • Support construction administration by conducting site visits, reviewing submittals and installation drawings, and assisting with punch list activities.
  • Provide mentorship to junior interior design staff, offering guidance and oversight in the preparation of project documentation.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Interior Design from a CIDA-accredited institution.
  • 6+ years or more of professional interior design experience
  • Proficiency in industry-standard software (e.g., Revit, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite).
  • Licensed professional certification in interior design (e.g., NCIDQ) is preferred.

Interior Designer III

IKM Architecture is seeking an Interior Designer with a minimum of eight years of experience to join our team. You’ll participate in the conceptual design and provides support throughout all phases of a project, from programming and planning through construction administration. This role collaborates closely with project managers, architects, consultants, and clients to develop thoughtful, technically sound, and operationally effective interior design solutions.

The Interior Designer III is expected to contribute a strong technical design perspective, coordinate project deliverables, and support the development of interior design strategies that align with project goals, client needs, and firm standards. This position also plays an active role in mentoring junior staff and supporting the professional growth of team members.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the conceptual design and development of interior environments across multiple project types, with a strong emphasis on healthcare projects.
  • Support projects through all phases including programming, schematic design, design development, construction documents, specifications, furniture selection, and construction administration.
  • Coordinate with project managers, architects, engineers, consultants, vendors, and clients throughout the design process.
  • Develop and communicate technical design solutions, material applications, finish selections, furniture strategies, and detailing approaches.
  • Assist in maintaining project schedules, budgets, and quality standards.
  • Produce and coordinate drawings, finish plans, specifications, presentations, and other project documentation.
  • Participate in client meetings, user group meetings, and design presentations.
  • Research products, materials, furnishings, and healthcare design trends to support project objectives and operational performance.
  • Coordinate with firm leadership, department leadership, and project teams regarding technical solutions and product strategies.
  • Mentor and support junior interior design staff through day-to-day collaboration, guidance, and review of work.

Qualifications:

The Project Architect will lead projects from schematic design through construction administration, with responsibility for technical design, documentation, and material approvals. Project Manager

IKM Architecture is seeking an enthusiastic Project Manager in the healthcare sector to help support and be a catalyst for IKM’s growth in Pittsburgh, Columbus, and Cleveland. The Project Manager will play a pivotal role in leading projects through all phases while building and maintaining relationships with healthcare clients, subconsultants, and stakeholders. This role requires a strong working knowledge of healthcare design and the healthcare industry. The ideal candidate for this role should be collaborative, detail-oriented, a self-starter, and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead projects through all phases of development
  • Drive overall client satisfaction through the effective use of pull planning and other lean process tools
  • Facilitate design sessions and “Big Room” workshops with stakeholders to gain consensus on project vision and guiding principles
  • Work with the project team to prepare and present design solutions to design leadership and clients
  • Communicate and coordinate efficiently and effectively with consultants
  • Lead project work plan and schedule development, including fee and budget analysis
  • Be a strong advocate for the Client’s design, financial, and schedule goals for the project
  • Collaborate with marketing on pursuing new opportunities and responding to RFP/RFQs.
  • Establish transparent communication protocols to ensure well-coordinated documentation of the project
  • Identify and participate in Business Development activities throughout the region
  • Participate in staff recruitment efforts to build the Columbus office
  • Represent the firm at industry events in Columbus
  • Mentor younger staff within the project team
  • Knowledge of local and regional jurisdictional authority and code requirements (including NFPA, IBC, FGI, and other codes or standards of care)
  • Must possess the ability to apply critical thinking, influencing strategies, and decision-making within a team structure

Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of experience as a Project Manager
  • Current Architecture registration required
  • Experience with healthcare design
