IKM was commissioned for the renovation of three classrooms within the Gates Hillman Center School of Computer Science with the goal of creating a more collaborative learning and teaching environment.

Through discussions and design development with the university staff, the project evolved into a two phase, 3,185 square foot renovation that transformed underutilized office, classroom, and corridor spaces into a technology-rich learning and teaching center.

The first phase created an open and welcoming teaching lounge through the renovation of offices and a dead-end corridor. This lounge features bar style window seating overlooking views to the campus, white board walls, and tables for group discussions.

The second phase transformed two existing lecture style classrooms into computer rooms. These classrooms feature prototype computer workstations arranged in clusters to promote group collaboration.
