Duquesne University
Department of Admissions
- Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
- Completed August 2015
- Renovation
- 4,600 square feet
IKM was retained by Duquesne University to provide comprehensive renovations to the first floor of their circa 1870 “Old Main” administration building for the University’s Department of Admissions. The design provides a transitionally contemporary, technologically rich, hospitality-oriented environment designed to resonate with today’s candidate and parent expectations.
The main lobby, designed as a multi-media gallery, greets visitors entering the building. Large format flat panel displays provide historical background on the University and the Spiritan Fathers, who founded the school. This space transitions into a new reception and hospitality suite designed to accommodate groups of up to 20 persons for campus tours.
The space is zoned into three areas including traditional reception, hospitality, and an “exploration area” where candidates have access to technology to explore the schools programs and culture. Flat panel screens have Wi-Fi operability and coordinate with iPad interface for interactive exploration. New offices for Admissions Counselors take advantage of high ceilings and windows and allow natural light to flood interior spaces through the use of interior glass partitions.
