Kent State University
Center for Student Involvement and Student Center Administration Renovation
- Kent, Ohio
- Completed 2025
- 5,400 Square Feet
- $1M Project Value
The renovation of Suite 120 transforms an underused portion of Kent State’s Student Center into a welcoming first impression for students and families visiting the university. Once hidden in back corridors, the suite is now a visible hub that brings together the Center for Student Involvement and Student Center Administration, previously scattered across the building. The design resolved long-standing challenges by creating a one-stop student service center that improves wayfinding and ensures universal accessibility. Opening the suite to the adjacent lobby makes student services easy to locate, with a new information desk welcoming multigenerational guests and interior glazing that draws in natural light and highlights activity inside.
Within 5,400 square feet, the suite offers modern offices, flexible meeting and huddle rooms with advanced A/V technology, and multipurpose spaces such as lounge seating and a student-friendly breakroom. These elements foster collaboration among staff, faculty, and students while providing a comfortable and connected environment.
Bold colors, graphic features, and signage showcase Kent State’s blue and gold identity. The entry is framed by dynamic forms inspired by the university’s lightning bolt motif, while vibrant finishes unify the interior with a cohesive, branded experience. The renovation not only strengthens campus pride and first impressions for prospective students but also establishes a forward-looking standard for future Student Center projects.
Student Center activity continued throughout construction, which was completed within a year of project kickoff to align with the academic calendar. Careful separation between the construction zone and the lobby ensured safety and minimized disruption, allowing the building to remain active. Delivered on time, the new hub opened to students and visitors in the Spring semester of 2025.
