As caseload increased at the sixth floor Surgery and Specialty Center, UPMC Falk desired to make modifications to decrease patient wait times by expanding the treatment capacity of the clinic. IKM renovated underutilized storage and staff spaces to accommodate two additional exam rooms. Patient experience was a priority and the design team focused on updating the finishes to create a contemporary waiting area while addressing individual comfort and privacy.

The color palette incorporates warm neutrals illuminated by soft lighting for a cozy, welcoming atmosphere. Screens of vibrant wood tones and shimmery metal serve as dividers in the open waiting room, creating a variety of seating options for individuals and families. The curved Check In/Check Out desk is prominently located and enables staff supervision of the entire waiting area.
